High-performance paints and coatings
Silica fume plays the role of a "multi-functional warrior" in coatings, enhancing the protective performance and aesthetic appeal of the coating film from primers to topcoats.
Enhanced Film Physical Properties:
· Anti-Dirt Pickup and Stain Resistance: Silica fume fills the resin matrix of the coating film, creating a dense and smooth surface where dust particles have difficulty adhering, allowing self-cleaning by rain wash. This is extremely important for architectural exterior wall paints and industrial floors.
· Abrasion and Mar Resistance: The hard siliceous particles uniformly distributed in the coating film act like "chainmail," effectively resisting mechanical friction and scratches from hard objects.
Improved Chemical Corrosion Resistance:
· Barrier Effect: Silica fume particles stack up within the coating film, prolonging the path for water, oxygen, and other corrosive media (e.g., SO₂, CO₂) to reach the substrate, significantly delaying the corrosion process of the substrate.
· Chemical Inertness: Silica fume itself is resistant to acids and alkalis, enhancing the durability of the coating in chemical environments.
Improved Processability:
· Anti-Settling: Silica fume provides a degree of thixotropy, helping to prevent the settling of heavy pigments in the coating system, improving storage stability.
· Matting Effect: It can be used to formulate flat or matte high-performance coatings as required.
